College of Education for Human Sciences at University of Anbar held the defense of the PhD viva entitled “The Rejected in Rhetoric and Criticism Books from the Fourth Century to the End of the Eighth Hijri Century: An Analytical Study.”

Department of Arabic Language at College of Education for Humanities has discussed the dissertation, entitled “The Rejected in Rhetoric and Criticism Books from the Fourth Hijri Century to the End of the Eighth Hijri Century: An Analytical Study,” on Monday, May 18, 2026, in Abu Al-Thanaa Al-Alusi Hall at the Deanship of the College of Education for Humanities at University of Anbar.

The dissertation submitted by the student, Nesreen Awwad Adham Dhahir Al-Luhaibi, aimed to demonstrate that Arabic criticism was neither partial nor simplistic; rather, it was a distinguished, profound, and comprehensive form of criticism. This was reflected in various aspects of earlier scholarly studies, such as examining the standards of poetic mastery through the study of a poet’s works alongside those of contemporaries and peers, as well as the poetry of the entire era, in order to determine what distinguished that poet and qualified him for prominence and excellence. It also explored the classification and categorization of poets, the analysis of each poet’s style individually, and the identification of their artistic and stylistic characteristics. Furthermore, the study addressed the Arabic poem as a complete unit and explained methods of textual construction in ways that surpass what is presented in modern textual studies.

The dissertation committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Othman Abdulhaleem Jallout, College of Education for Human Sciences, University of Anbar. The committee members included Professor Dr. Adnan Jassim Mohammed Al-Jumaili, University of Baghdad – Ibn Rushd College of Education for Human Sciences; Professor Dr. Mohammed Nouri Abbas, College of Education for Human Sciences – University of Anbar; Professor Dr. Ihab Majeed Mahmoud, College of Education for Human Sciences – University of Anbar; Assistant Professor Dr. Maha Fawaz Khalifa Ahmed, College of Arts – University of Anbar; under the supervision and membership of Professor Dr. Abdulnasser Hashim Mohammed, College of Education for Human Sciences – University of Anbar.

After extensive discussion by the committee members regarding the dissertation topic, the dissertation was accepted with the grade “Pass.”

Congratulations to the student, her supervisor, and the respected committee members.
