"PhD Viva: Iyad Jamil Waheed Abd Al-Obeidi"

 

The Department of Quranic Sciences and Islamic Education at the College of Education for Human Sciences, University of Anbar, discussed a doctoral dissertation titled: "Contemporary Technologies and Their Impact on Guiding Sensory Relations Between Parents and Children: A Maqasidi Study".

The defense took place on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at the Abi Al-Thana' Al-Alusi Hall in the Deanship of the College of Education for Human Sciences, University of Anbar.

Objectives of the Study

The dissertation, submitted by the student Iyad Jamil Waheed Abd Al-Obeidi, aims to:

  • Study the impact of contemporary technologies on the relationship between parents and children from a Maqasidi (objectives of Islamic law) perspective.

  • Uncover the positive and negative aspects of using modern technological tools in family communication and bonding.

  • Establish the governing Sharia regulations for their use, ultimately presenting a contemporary Maqasidi vision that helps guide the use of modern technologies in a way that serves familial and educational interests.

Key Recommendations

The study recommended:

  • The necessity for researchers and students of Sharia sciences to focus on emerging contemporary issues to keep pace with development, while balancing Sharia constants with modern variables, digital transformation, and the modern upbringing of children in alignment with Sharia and educational values.

  • Enhancing the role of role-modeling within the family regarding technology usage; the Sharia and ethical commitment demonstrated by parents when using these devices directly reflects on their children.

Defense Committee

The discussion committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Ahmed Khatal Mukhlif (College of Education for Human Sciences, University of Anbar), and included the following members:
