A Workshop entitled (Drug and Psychotropic Influences, and its Social and Psychological Effects

Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Education for Humanities, Professor Dr. Taha Ibrahim Shbeeb, the Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Center and the Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic  Influences  Affairs in Anbar, organized a workshop entitled "Drug and Psychotropic  Influences, and its Social and Psychological Effects". The workshop was held in Abu Al-Barakat Al-Anbari Hall,  on Monday, 10/7/2024. The lecturers  in this workshop include: :

* Police Captain Namir Sami Anad - Director of the Rehabilitation Center for Drug Addicts in Ramadi.

* Legal expert Marwan Muhammad Abdullah - Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic  Influences Affairs in Anbar

* Assistant Professor Dr. Muthanna Ismail Turki.

* Assistant Professor Dr. Omar Khalaf Rashid.

 

The workshop aimed at identifying  the concept of drug addiction, its types and causes, the psychological, social and economic effects of drug addiction, and the methods of prevention and treatment.

The workshop came out with a set of recommendations, the most prominent of which are:

1-The family is the basic social component in society and it is its responsibility, especially the parents, to shape the behavior of their children.

2-Developing religious awareness and commitment to religious teachings and avoiding its prohibitions and community awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and its psychological and social effects.

3-Early therapeutic intervention before reaching the stage of dependence due to the resulting harm.

4-At the state level, the necessary measures should be taken by controlling border crossings and combating drug dealers and taking strict measures against them.

5-The concerned authorities should pay attention to medical and psychological treatment centers for addicts and social rehabilitation.

 

The workshop was attended by a number of professors and students. After  the event ended, the attendees had the opportunity to ask questions and make interventions that were answered by the lecturers.

In conclusion, everyone thanked the College of Education for Humanities for providing the opportunity to exchange ideas between professors and students, and stressed on the need to communicate to hold future meetings and training courses.
